Super Cyclists Take on Bike for Bobby
Three Winn Solicitors staff took on the Bike for Bobby cycling challenge at the weekend. Mick Davis, John Nesbitt and Michael Kealy all cycled in the event, which is held every year in honour of Newcastle hero Sir Bobby Robson.
Cyclists who took part in the event, which was sponsored by Winn Solicitors, had the option of choosing from a 40 mile, 70 mile or 125 mile route.
We caught up with Mick Davis and John Nesbitt, who both took on the 70-mile challenge, before and after the event.
Prior to taking part, John and Mick were feeling confident:
Mick: “I’m looking forward to it, I love anything like this! I’m hoping to complete the challenge in around five hours.”
John: “I’m really looking forward to it, too. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and it’s for a great cause. I’m hoping it will take me between four and five hours to complete – it depends on how fast Mick is cycling!”
We spoke to Mick and John again after they finished. They both did an incredible job, with Mick crossing the finish line in 4 hours and 57 minutes, and John in 6 hours and 19 minutes. The two Winns staff tell us their best and worst bits about their impressive journey:
Mick: “The weather could have been better – the wind in your face was near enough 30 miles an hour heading back towards Newcastle. The inclines were pretty tough too – hills that didn’t seem to end. Seeing a signpost that said ‘Newcastle – 10 miles’ and crossing the finish line in under five hours were definitely my best bits.”
John: “The climb from the 20 mile to the 40 mile mark was pretty tough – but seeing St James Park on the way back to town was the highlight!”
