Director Jo Takes on the Great North Run
Winn Solicitors’ Associate Director Jo Amos is taking on the Great North Run on Sunday, in aid of the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution).
The Great North Run is the second half marathon that Jo will take part in for the charity this year, having completed the Edinburgh Half Marathon in April. A keen runner, Jo also completed a Coast to Coast run last year, in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Jo has elected to support the RNLI this year, due to her family connections with sailing: “I decided to raise money for the RNLI as I come from a family of sailors and have been sailing since I was a child. They provide a 24 hour search and rescue service all around the UK coast and a seasonal lifeguard service. You may have seen them on the beaches at Tynemouth, Cullercoats and elsewhere. The RNLI is almost entirely funded by charitable donations and legacies so they need as much support as possible.”
Despite recently suffering from a leg injury, Jo is determined not to let it put her off: “Before 2015 I had not run a half marathon for 12 years so it was a little daunting to take this on. My training was going well but I suffered a leg injury in April which meant I had to reduce the training leading up to the Edinburgh half marathon at the end of May. However I managed to complete the run and even enjoyed some of it! I still have the injury so am not training as hard as I would like. However I am determined to complete the Great North Run even though I may be hobbling by the end!”
